frequently asked questions.
how do i create a pact?
open the app and tap "start a pact." pick your commitment (gym,
reading, meditation, sobriety, cooking — whatever you want), set
your weekly goal and stake amount. you'll get an invite link to
send. whoever says yes first gets the spot. no app yet? they can
start from the link in their browser. you can also dare someone
without the app at buddy.checkmatelabs.app/dare.
what categories can i track?
anything. we have 13 built-in categories — gym, running, reading,
meditation, studying, cooking, worship, journaling, yoga,
sobriety, no sugar, no smoking, no social media — plus a custom
"other" option for literally anything else you want to commit to.
how does check-in verification work?
depends on your category. for "do" commitments (gym, reading,
cooking, etc.), you snap a check-in selfie and share it with your
rival. for "don't" commitments (sobriety, no sugar, no smoking),
you tap to confirm on the honor system — your rival holds you
accountable. think a check-in is fake? tap "call bs" on it. a
check-in nobody answers counts after 24 hours. no GPS, no
complicated steps.
does accountabilibuddy handle money?
no, never. we only track your commitments and
show what you might owe. all actual settling happens directly
between you and your rival — venmo, cash app, paypal, zelle, or
even creative punishments like embarrassing photos or buying
dinner. we never see or touch your money.
what if my rival doesn't pay?
since we don't process payments, that's between you two. that's
why we recommend pacting with someone you trust. you can also skip
money entirely and agree on fun alternatives — cold plunge, public
confession on social media, coffee runs for a week. get creative.
can i change my pact terms?
yes. on the pact tab, propose a new stake, schedule or number of
sessions. it changes when your rival accepts. you can also end a
pact anytime and start a new one. settle up before ending.
is my data secure?
yes. we collect minimal info (name and pact details). a
reduced-size copy of each check-in photo is stored so your rival
can verify it in the app. only the two of you can see it, and it
is deleted after 30 days. your contact list never leaves your
phone; if you pick your rival from it, we keep only their number.
check our privacy policy for full details.
i got a new phone or got signed out.
open the app, tap "i have a code," and enter your code. it's the
one you got when you joined (it looks like ABCDEFGHIJ-KL). lost
it? tap "lost your code?" on the same screen, or email us with
your name and your rival's name.
i'm not getting notifications.
check they're on for accountabilibuddy in your phone's settings
(settings → notifications), then open the app once so it can
register your phone again. still nothing? email us your code and
we'll look.
how do i report or block someone?
in chat, tap the flag at the top right to report or block your
rival. to report a photo, tap the flag on it. blocking ends the
pact. we review every report, and remove content or people that
break the rules, usually within 24 hours.
how do i delete my account?
in the app: tap the logo at the top left of the dashboard to open
settings, then "delete account." it's immediate.
no longer have the app? email support@checkmatelabs.app with the subject "delete my accountabilibuddy account" and your name and pact code, and we'll delete it within 48 hours.
what gets erased: your name, login key, check-in photos, chat messages, your rival's phone number, push tokens and notification settings. your pacts are ended. what stays: the anonymous record of the pact itself (terms, check-in dates, who owed what), shown to your rival as "deleted", so their history still adds up.
