the short version.
we collect minimal data, never sell your information, and do not process any payments or collect any financial information. your check-in photos are shown only to the people in your pact and are deleted after 30 days.
what we collect.
We keep data collection to an absolute minimum:
- Your name - So the people in your pact know who they're up against
- Login code and key - A random code and key that sign you in to your pacts (not your device's serial number)
- Pact details - Your commitment goals, stake amounts (display only), and session targets
- Check-in records - When you checked in, and whether it was confirmed or challenged
- Timezone - To accurately track your weekly progress
- Check-in photos - When you check in with a photo, a reduced-size copy is stored so it can be verified in the app. Only the people in your pact (your rival, or everyone in your group) can view it. Photos are deleted automatically after 30 days, and immediately if you delete your account.
- Your rival's phone number - Only if you choose one, so you can resend the invite. It is visible only to you and is removed if you delete your account
- Chat messages - Messages you send inside your pact
- Notification token - If you turn on notifications, so we can send them. Removed if you delete your account
- Usage events - Which screens and actions are used (for example "pact created" or "app opened") with the app version and platform, so we know what works
- Reports - If you report a message, photo or person, what you reported and why, so we can review it
- Crash reports - If the app hits an error, the error details, app version and device type, so we can fix it
what we absolutely do not collect.
This is critical to understand:
- No payment information - We do not collect credit card numbers, bank accounts, Venmo/PayPal credentials, or any financial data whatsoever
- No photo library access beyond saving - We save your check-in photo to your library. We never read or upload the other photos on your device.
- No location data - We do not track your GPS location. Ever.
- No contact list uploads - If you pick your rival from your contacts, the list is read on your phone only to show it to you. It is never uploaded. Only the one number you choose is kept (see above)
- No health data - We do not connect to Apple Health, Google Fit, or any health tracking services
- No biometric data - We do not collect fingerprints, face scans, or other biometric information
no financial transactions.
We want to be absolutely clear: AccountabiliBuddy does not process, facilitate, or have any involvement with money or payments. The "stake" amounts shown in the app are user-defined display values only. Any actual money exchanged between users happens entirely outside our platform through third-party services (Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, Zelle, etc.) that users choose independently.
how we use your information.
Your data is used solely to provide the App's core functionality:
- Match you with your rival or group using invite links and codes
- Send the notifications you turned on
- Review reports and keep people safe
- Track your commitment progress and streaks
- Display penalty calculations (which you may or may not settle privately)
- Improve the App's performance and user experience
data sharing.
We do NOT sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share limited data only in these cases:
- With the people in your pact - Your name, check-ins, photos and messages are visible to your rival, or to everyone in your group
- Pages you choose to share - If you share a weekly result or join a club, that page shows first names and scores to anyone with the link. These pages ask search engines not to list them
- Service providers - Cloud hosting for our servers and database, and Apple/Google/Expo to deliver notifications
- Legal requirements - If required by law, court order, or government request
- Safety - To protect against fraud, abuse, or harm to users or the public
data storage & security.
Your data is stored on encrypted servers with industry-standard security measures including:
- SSL/TLS encryption for all data transmission
- Encrypted database storage
- Regular security reviews and updates
- Access to user data limited to the people who run the App
data retention.
We retain your data only as long as necessary:
- Active accounts - Data is kept while your account is active
- Deleted accounts - Deleting your account in the app takes effect immediately: your name, login key, check-in photos, chat messages, phone numbers, notification token and settings are erased, and your pacts end. An anonymous record of each pact (its terms, check-in dates and who owed what) stays, shown to the others as "deleted", so their history still adds up. Requests by email are handled within 48 hours
- Unanswered invites - An invite nobody accepts expires after 7 days
children's privacy.
AccountabiliBuddy is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we discover that a child under 18 has provided us with personal information, we will promptly delete it.
your rights.
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
- Access - Request a copy of your personal data
- Correction - Request correction of inaccurate data
- Deletion - Request deletion of your account and data
- Portability - Request your data in a portable format
- Opt-out - End your pact and stop using the App at any time
To exercise any of these rights, contact us. We will respond within 30 days.

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the CCPA, including the right to know what personal information we collect and the right to request deletion. We do not sell your personal information. Contact us to exercise these rights.
international users (gdpr).
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have rights under the GDPR including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection. Contact us to exercise these rights.
changes to this policy.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
